Lots needed to get done before (and just after) school started here in PTY. Here's an abridged rundown.
Scratch off the map!
Check. It's nice that the province of Quebec is so big! It's not so nice that the scratch-off map is so sensitive- we haven't actually been to a swath of Alaska, but we have had a lot of Nerf wars in the hallway...
Clean up the beach on Costa del Este.
Not quite check. Ok, so perhaps the beach wasn't spotless when we left. But according to the bags of recycling and trash we hauled out we made a dent! (The before and after pics beg to differ...)
Have I mentioned that you should really avoid styrofoam?
Explore a 499-year-old city.
Check. Our hometown will be celebrating it's half-millennium birthday next year. We wanted to get there before the crowds.
Can you see us (minus The Eldest who is taking the picture) up top?
I wonder what the original inhabitants thought of the view of the Costa del Este skyscrapers.
Check. Actually Sarah was the only Schnack who went on this adventure, and while she did see the above creatures, we've borrowed the above images (Thanks Damion!). But she took the one below right after everyone had fled the water with a few smallish jellyfish stings!
Notice how large our children have become!
Check times three.
Attend Sushifest PTY 2018!
Check. It was at the Hard Rock Hotel! And (alas, just some of) the sushi was great!
Attend a "You too can become a writer" presentation by an honest-to-goodness New York Times bestselling author.
Check. Marrisa Meyer gave quite a talk; I especially liked the celebration-of -failure-as-part-of-the- learning- process part.
Throw a Twobies-Host-The-Newbies party for the new hires
Check, though I don't actually have any pictures from the shindig we hosted, but it was well-attended by a good 49 souls. I hope we've started a tradition.
And finally the last one:
Learn a new skill
Check! The Big O started on the trumpet a mere six days ago. His brother has been mentoring him well; here they are in their first recorded brass duet:
